The car used by Steve Forrest in most of the episodes of The Baron was a 1964 Jensen CV8 MkII. (For a fleeting moment in Samurai West, the real registration number of the car can be seen.) Jensen were keen to avoid making the same publicity that Jaguar had made in 1962 by refusing to allow the Jaguar E-Type to appear in The Saint. In refusing to even allow ITC to buy a car and feature it, Jaguar allowed Volvo to create an iconic image with the P1800, since they had been only too happy to provie a car and thus agreed to lend a CV8 to ITC for the entire duration of the series. The CV8 is a rare beast, which is not surprising given its very contemporary price tag, limited production run and replacement by the Interceptor even when The Baron was still in production, but apparently its appearance in the series boosted sales slightly. Interior shots of the car were sometimes achieved by using the same mock-up as already employed by The Saint production team for the P1800, but in general, the real interior of the car, characterised by its red leather and wooden-rimmed steering wheel, are seen.
